ClearNest Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 30, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how ClearNest: Storage Cleaner ("ClearNest", "the App") handles information when you use it. It is written to match exactly what the App's code does — not what a generic template says a cleaner app might do.

1. Summary
ClearNest is an on-device storage-cleaning tool. Scanning, hashing, and cleanup all happen locally on your phone. The App does not require you to create an account, and does not collect your name, email address, or phone number. The sections below explain exactly what each permission is used for and what, if anything, ever leaves your device.
2. Permissions and what we do with them
| Permission | Why the App asks for it | Leaves your device? |
|---|---|---|
Photos and videos (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, or READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on older Android versions) | To list your photos/videos so the App can find duplicates, near-duplicates, and large photos and videos you choose to review and delete. | No — file names, sizes, and pixel data are read and hashed on-device only. |
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, requested on Android 13 and later) | To show a "Clean Reminder" notification when your device is genuinely low on storage. Reminders are on by default, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings → Clean Reminder Notifications. About every 6 hours, the App checks your device's real storage usage on-device and only notifies you when at least 85% of your storage is used. On Android 13 and later, no reminder is shown unless you also grant the notification permission. | No — this is a local check; nothing about your storage usage is sent anywhere to decide whether to notify you. |
All Files Access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 11 and later) — optional, off by default | Only requested if you turn it on in the App's Settings. On Android 10 and later, without this permission Android only lets the App see media files such as photos and videos, plus the App's own cache. Turning it on lets the App also find obsolete APK installers, other large files (for example, ZIP archives and PDFs), empty folders, and WhatsApp voice-message and sticker files. Duplicate and similar photo detection, large photos and videos, and WhatsApp photos and videos work without it. Android 10 does not offer this permission, so those additional items can't be found on Android 10. | No — used only to read/delete files you've selected, on-device. |
Network access (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) | Used only by the Network Speed Test tool. To measure latency ("ping"), it sends a small request to Google's connectivity-check endpoint (www.gstatic.com). To measure download speed, it downloads a test file (about 5 MB) from Cloudflare's public speed-test endpoint (speed.cloudflare.com). Upload speed is not measured separately; it is estimated from the download result. | Your device's IP address is visible to Google and Cloudflare for these requests, the same as when you open any web page. No file content, photos, or personal data is included in these requests. |
The App does not request camera, microphone, contacts, call log, SMS, or precise location access, because it doesn't use any of them.
3. What we store, and where
Your Settings choices (language, whether reminders are on, ad-personalization preference, auto-scan frequency) are stored only in local app storage on your device (Android's DataStore), never on a server we operate. Uninstalling the App removes this data.
4. Advertising and analytics
At the time of this policy, the App does not integrate a live advertising network or analytics/attribution SDK — no ads are shown, and event logging exists in the code but does not currently transmit data to any third party. If that changes (for example, when a real ad network is integrated to support the App), this policy will be updated first to name the specific networks involved, what they collect, and how to opt out, before that version ships.
5. Data deletion
Because processing happens on-device and we don't operate an account system, there is no server-side copy of your data to request deletion of. Uninstalling the App deletes its local Settings storage. Files you clean through the App (junk, duplicate photos, etc.) are deleted directly from your device's storage when you confirm a cleanup — this cannot be undone by us, so please review the selection screens before confirming.
6. Children's privacy
ClearNest is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region) and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
7. Changes to this policy
If how the App handles data changes — most notably when real advertising/analytics SDKs are integrated — we will update this policy and change the "Last updated" date above.
